Suzanne Collier started her career at Andre Deutsch Ltd, in the days when Andre still ran the company. Since then she has worked in every department of publishing from Editorial through to Sales, for publishers large and small, and in both Academic and Trade Publishing. This has brought her into contact with some of the biggest names in publishing and many bestselling authors.
The majority of Suzanne’s publishing career has been spent in business development and sales & marketing, searching out new business, often in extreme markets, and developing existing accounts always exceeding company expectations. She continues to offer this as a consultancy service to publishers and covers digital and eBook editions, as well as traditional print books.
Suzanne founded bookcareers.com back in 1999, and has successfully run it alongside holding down a full-time publishing role, building it from a starting place for those seeking careers advice about publishing, to a career development organisation with a brand name which is recognised throughout the industry.
For her careers work, Suzanne is fully qualified in Career Guidance and Development (NVQ Level 6), a member of the Career Development Institute and is listed on their register of careers practitioners. When talking to clients, she offers the same confidentiality that one might come to expect from a Doctor.
In 2011 Suzanne was awarded the Pandora Award by Women in Publishing, for a significant and sustained contribution to the publishing industry. She has been shortlisted by the Independent Publishers Guild for Services to Publishing (2018) and the Career Development Institute for her research on publishing salaries (2018).
Suzanne continues to train others, undertake public speaking engagements, and regularly writes articles on both careers and publishing issues which have been published in the Trade and National Press. Suzanne is currently a category judge for the Business Book Awards as well as publishes books under the bookcareers name.
Outside of work she is passionate about cycling, Dagenham & Redbridge FC, health related fitness (she is a fully qualified aerobics teacher), and loves flowers.
Suzanne has suffered with a chronic migraine condition since 2006 and uses this to help promote the work of The Migraine Trust. Other charities which she actively supports are The Book Trade Charity (BTBS) and the Encephalitis Society.
